Stay Woke

The feed literally tells us what may be capable of happening in the future. Their lives completely revolve around advertising. The Feed not only provides them with information on demand but manipulates their decision-making it reality. They make decisions based on what it tells them to do.

Okay so where do I start? The world of Feed is  where the corporations are  powerful, all but controlling everyone's thoughts from birth to death. From growing up on kids TV to growing into something based on a chip. You  constantly bombarded with ideas about what to buy, to having corporations make life-or-death decisions for people who are capable to live without the feed like Violet. In Titus's world, even the clouds are part of the government. Lie do you really think they have control of the natural things in life? Want to rebel? If you think this is a good idea then you mine as well prepare for your death. We get a second-hand look at the corporations' brutality through the feed images of rioters beaten into submission and a first-hand look when Violet's treatment is refused.

"Whispering makes a narrow place narrower."
Titus hears this weird sound when someone hijacks his feed while he sleeps. The message  is that  there's danger in resisting, so secrecy matters. I think this means that people should be more open to whats going on with society. The government has so much control over the people that it makes me wonder what will be happening in the future. We as people should pay this close attention and understand that the government is making weird decisions. For example, we have a situation with having Trump as president. Even though we voted, our votes don't mean anything. We take the time to go vote but technically our votes don't count which clearly shows how the government does not care about the people as much as they say they do. In the feed, the government is taking control of the people and they are so use to the feed that they don't know how to function without it.

I also noticed how rebellion played a huge part in the novel. Violet decides to make a rebellious act by messing with the feed. She hates how every time she walks into a store or walks down the street she has things popping up in her head which is really frustrating. She believes that the feeds are beginning to control everyone’s lives and it is making a profile for everyone. The feed is beginning to determine what decisions you make and they things you do. Her idea is that if she does not have consistent patterns, it will throw off the feed and will be unable to create a profile for her.
Her rebellious act begins to work as the feed can not read her or find any consistencies. Violets plan then back fires right in her face when the feed just begins to shut down on her and is not working properly. She talks to different feed technicians and they tell her that it would be impossible to completely fix her feed because she got the feed later than everyone else and it has not grown with her whole life. Violets next problem happens when she is at a party with Titus and his friends when she gets into an argument with some of his  friends she has a big out break and after a lot of yelling her body just shuts down and she is sent to the hospital. From then on Violet knows she is on her way to death. Her rebellious act caused her own death and trying to cheat such an advanced system ultimately proves that you can’t beat it.

Knowing this about Violet is a prime example why it's hard to go against the government.
Instead of our bodies shutting down, we go to jail or get put in detention centers. It's like a punishment but it is crazy because they say we have freedom in America but how much? We can't do too much without getting locked up or beaten on. God forbid you are African American  then you have not only the government but even more people. It is power and we can fight back but it ends in such a horrible way most of the time. This is something that needs to be addressed in the world today.

"It's Riot Gear. It's retro. It's beat up to look like one of the big twentieth-century riots. It's been big since earlier this week." Loga makes a clear point here about the cool kids at their high school. They either have no clue on whats going on behind them or they just don't understand the feed. The crazy thing is we are doing that right now. We have no clue what's going on with the world today because we are too focused on the new sneakers or new clothes or just materialistic things. People will watch a Cavs vs. Pacers gave before they watch what Trump doing with Korea. We are blinded by social media and materialistic things that we don't see whats going on. The feed warns you of what may be coming soon.
